Test-Match-Weekend for EBEL Teams

Teilen auf facebook

Donnerstag, 29.August 2013 - 20:31 - The pre-season 2013/14 is going into the final phase at this weekend. All teams use the next days to test. The only test between two league-clubs is played on Saturday at the Gabor Ocskay Jr. Memorial Tournament in Szekesfehervar between the hosts and Ljubljana.

Sapa Fehérvár AV19 is playing this weekend its third consecutive tournament. At the previous one in Miskolc, they were placed second after a 2-1 loss to Polans’s Sanok in the tournament final. “Defensively we are making steps into the right direction, but we still need to find a little more offense”, said head coach Marty Raymond.
Sapa Fehérvár AV19 closes its pre-season – as it has done in the previous four years – with the Gábor Ocskay Jr. Memorial Tournament this upcoming weekend. “This tournament is another great opportunity for lots of young players to showcase their skills since some players are out of the line-up. This will help us evaluate some more who we are. The tournament will be a great challenge since the level of play will increase, really strong teams are coming to the event. It will be good to finally play against a League-opponent, Ljubljana and then against either Ambri-Piotta of Switzerland or Sheffield United from the UK”, continued the Canadian.

The coaching staff and the players are fully aware of the added significance of this Memorial Tournament: “We will all try our very best to honor the memory of Gábor Ocskay Jr. He was an iconic figure of the club and of Hungarian ice hockey and the hard effort given by the team will be the best way to remember him”, added Marty Raymond.

HDD Telemach Olimpija Ljubljana travels already on Friday to Hungary. The green dragons will miss Pascal Morency, Scott Howes and Miha Pesjak (all injured). Judd Blackwater and Jaka Zdesar are both a question-mark. "We want to be a good opponent also without these players. The games are a good test and will show us, how good we are already. We know that Szekesfehervar has good players in his team. The two other two clubs are also strong”, knows Head Coach Bojan Zajc, who starts with Olimpija in two weeks, on Friday, 13th of September, against Innsbruck into the season. For Ljubljana both goalies - Ales Sila and Jerry Kuhn – will get time to play at the tournament in Hungary.

HC Orli Znojmo finishes Pre-Season at home
HC Orli Znojmo plays their last test-match on Tuesday at home against Slovakian Extraliga-club HK 36 Skalica. So far the “Red Eagles” have won all five home-games in this Pre-Season. Today the Czechs face Kladno.

First home-game for Graz
Moser Medical Graz99ers will finish their Pre-Season on Friday at home against KHL-newcomer KHL Medvescak Zagreb. Today the Styrians presented with Jari Tolsa (FIN/SWE) a new try-out-player. The forward played already 625 games in Swedish Elitseries and will debut on Friday. Oliver Latendresse will miss the next games after an operation.

Black Wings play tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen/B>
EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz finish their pre-season at a tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There the Austrians play against ESV Kaufbeuren DEL 2) on Saturday and one day later against SC Riessersee DEL 2) or the DEL club Nürnberg. Linz is complete, both goalies – Mike Ouzas and Lorenz Hirn – will play one game. "Some key-players left the club, so we want to use the games again to try different things. With our new players I am very happy, they are a big part of team. Until the league starts we still have ten days: This time we want to use well and improve in all areas and get better every day", said Linz’s Head Coach Rob Daum, who won all friendly games so far with his team after shoot-out.

Dornbirn face German teams
Friday night at 8 the Bulldogs are going to have their next pre-season-test against German DEL-team Schwenninger Wild Wings. In the first meeting last week Dornbirn was able to surprise the Bulldogs-fans by succeeding in Schwenningen 2:1. And on Sunday the team travels to Ravensburg DEL 2) to play their last test. There is only one week left for practicing and testing, then the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga season will start for Dornbirn with a home-game against Villach (Saturday, 7th September). For DEC Head Coach Dave MacQueen it will not be the score that counts: "It's a test game, meaning the result is secondary.“ Still, his expectations are high: "It is time for the next step. We need to eliminate the mistakes we made in the previous tests."

Carinthian Teams versus Biel and Düsseldorf
Champion EC-KAC and EC VSV host EHC Biel (NLA) and Düsseldorfer EG (DEL) on the weekend. For Ex-KAC Crack Raphael Herburger, who signed in Biel in the summer, the game versus KAC on Friday is his comeback in Klagenfurt, the first time as an opponent. And also for defender Thomas Pöck the game will be special: It will be his first game for Klagenfurt since the year 2000. “We have a good team. The last two test should give us confidence for the season opener”, stated Pöck. Tyler Scofield (injured) and Patrick Harand (sick) won’t play. Goalie Renè Swette will start in the net on Friday, Fabian Weinhandl on Saturday versus Düsseldorf.

Also Villach is playing both teams on the weekend, on Friday the play Düsseldorf and on Sunday the host EHC Biel. After their first loss of the preseason versus Augsburg at the Dolomiten Cup, Villach wants to show a good performance and collect self-confidence for the season start on Saturday at Dornbirn. Forward Markus Peintner will not be in the line-up of coach Hannu Järvenpää due to an illness.

Capitals and Salzburg with two games in European Trophy
The Red Bulls hit the road to Germany to play versus the Hamburg Freezers (on Friday) and in Berlin (Sunday). Especially for Salzburg coach Don Jackson the game in Berlin will be a special one, until last season he was headcoach for the Eisbären: “I am looking forward to meet the fans and players, but as soon as the puck drops it will be a game like every other!” Mark Cullen & Matthias Trattnig will stay at home due to injuries.

UPC Vienna Capitals have two home games versus two Swedish topteams on their schedule. On Saturday they play HV71 and on Sunday Linköping. Although the Caps are ranked second in the south division they should try to win both games, because only the group winners and the two best 2nd placed teams of all four divisions qualifies qualify for the finals in Berlin.

HC Bozen tests twice against Belfast Giants
A long trip is waiting for the team of Tom Pokel. On the last weekend before the league start the foxes travel to Belfast, where they compete against the Belfast Giants on Saturday and Sunday. For HC Bozen it is only the second or third test in the preseason.

Last test for Innsbruck in Brixen against Schwenningen
Not only Dornbirner EC is testing against Schwenningen, also Innsbruck will face the DEL-club in their final preseason game on Monday in Brixen. After six defeats in a row the Sharks want to win this match, to start the championship with a win and a good feeling.
