Painful defeat for Bulldogs

Teilen auf facebook

Montag, 04.November 2013 - 6:14 - In round 20 of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga the reigning champion EC KAC won against the Dornbirner Eishockey Club 2:1. The DEC fought hard and played well, but had to leave the points to the record holding champion from Carinthia.

It was the last game before the International cap, and both teams – being competitors for the play off rankings - were eager for winning in this “four-points-game”. Klagenfurt, eighth in the standings and higher rated than Dornbirn (tenth), started off making a lot of pressure, downright locking Dornbirn in. As planned the KAC took the lead in minute 4. Colton Fretter succeeded in a powerplay. At the end of the first period Dornbirn eventually got into the game, but failed several times, such as Martin Grabher-Meier, who was denied by his former Lustenau teammate and current KAC goalie Rene Swette.

The home team got to extend its lead in the second period. Johannes Reichel (27.), assisted by a cross pass of Johannes Reichel, shoved the puck across the line. But the Bulldogs put up some resistance and had quite a few chances in this hard-fought game. In minute 38 Patrick Jarrett narrowed the gap to 1:2.

Even in the last period the Bulldogs did not give up. They eagerly fought and tried to score the tie. Klagenfurt missed out on taking the game home prematurely: Mike Siklenka only hit the metal. Dornbirn on the other hand could bank on goalie Adam Dennis, who played well and kept his team in the game. When the Bulldogs got a powerplay with 1:50 left to play, head coach Dave MacQueen pulled his goalie. But despite all efforts Dornbirn did not get rewarded and lost the game 1:2.
