Teilen auf facebook

Donnerstag, 03.Oktober 2013 - 11:27 - From the perspective of the International PSC and according to the EBEL Penalty Catalog Ref Nr. 120 - Kneeing, Matevz Erman of Olimpija Ljubljana is suspended for 1 game, effective immediately.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence, the player Matevz Erman (#47) of Ljubljana, time 57:48, made contact with an opponent deemed in nature as Kneeing, IIHF Rule 536.

From the perspective of the International PSC (IDOPS), it is proven that Matevz Erman (#47) delivers a check to an opponent, through the action of a knee, that could have been avoided. The Referee(s) called a 5 minute major plus game misconduct according to IIHF Rule 536 - Kneeing. In this case and as the video shows, the opponent is skating in a pattern (skating lane) which is in a arc (not straight line), where the movement is a right to left pattern, proven by the crossover motion of the opponents skates. Immediately and just prior to the contact, the opponent makes a sudden change of direction, from left to right (opposite directions).
Matevz Erman, steps up on the play, with a straight line skating pattern, which he is entitled to do. Immediately before contact to the opponent, Matevz Erman instinctively extends his leg towards the opponent, due to the sudden change of direction by the opponent.

It is proven by PSC, that the actions of Matevz Erman (#47) created a knee on knee contact with the opponent. In this case PSC feels that although Matevz Erman extended his knee in a instinctive manner, he still holds a responsibility to hit through the body and not the knee. PSC has deemed the following actions:

  • Direct knee to knee contact
  • Extends knee in the direction of the opponent
    li
  • Had a sight line of opponent before contact
Matevz Erman (#47) must make a better attempt to use body to body contact by leading with his upper body and not knee. From the perspective of the International PSC and according to the EBEL Penalty Catalog Ref Nr. 120 - Kneeing, Matevz Erman (#47) of Ljubljana is suspended for 1 game, effective immediately.

    Key Points:
1- Direct knee to knee contact
    2- Injury sustained to opponent
3- Aware of surroundings and had a option to use body vs knee
