Successful Pre-Season-Day for Austrian Teams

Samstag, 31.August 2013 - 9:50 - EC VSV, Dornbirn and Moser Medical Graz99ers had reasons for joy, all of them won today’s tests.

Villach’s head coach Hannu Järvenpää gave especially the young players a chance in today’s game against DEL team Düsseldorf. After a goalless starting period, the hosts piled the pressure in the second. In the 38th minute Benjamin Petrik broke the spell after a great combination. The Germans tried everything in the final period but the blue shirts did a great job in the defense. In the end, Marius Göhringer sealed the deal with an empty net goal.

EC-KAC scored early in their home opener against Biel but the visitors became stronger with each passing minute. As a result, the tied it three seconds before the first intermission and got the lead in the middle period. After the restart the Carinthians came back, scoring a brace within four minutes. However, they were not able to kill the clock and Biel got the equalizer again. It went to the shootout where Biel held the upper hand.

Dornbirner Eishockey Club celebrated the second win over Schwenningen in the preseason. David Madlener made his debut as starting goalie due to some minor injuries (Dennis, Grabher-Meier, Brooks). The Wild Wings scored a brace in the first period but Graham Mink reduced the deficit on power play in the middle frame. Afterwards things got a bit rough with penalties on both sides. Early in the third Graham Mink tied i tat two apiece and Luciano Aquino did the same after Marcel Rodman restored Schwenningen’s lead again. Assistant captain Niki Petrik turned the game around with six minutes to go to win also the second contest between these two teams.

Today, Moser Medical Graz99ers announced the signing of 28-year-old defenseman Alexandre Picard. The Canadian, who has played 253 NHL games in his career, was not yet in the lineup when his new team faced Medvescak Zagreb in the evening. 2.800 spectators saw a great game with Daniel Woger scoring twice in a 2:1 victory for Graz. Goalie Dany Sabourin became the hero, performing some great saves and the Styrians remained unbeaten in the preseason.
