Mittwoch, 22.November 2017 - 5:43 - The persecutors – EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz and EC-KAC – celebrated clear wins on Tuesday. Also KHL Medvescak Zagreb was on Fire. Leader Vienna Capitals lost at Graz. Besides HC Orli Znojmo and Dornbirn Bulldogs were successful.

KAC with clear win at Szekesfehervar
Klagenfurt didn’t waste time at the beginning of the game, Carruth had to make the first saves. The home team fought back and LoVecchio missed just by centimetres in minute 3. The game went on on both ends in the following minutes, but both goalies showed up. The first powerplay was for Klagenfurt and they used it well, after saves by the Fehervar goalie Jamie Lundmark put the puck in the upper right corner. Fischer was the next in the penalty box and in the delayed penalty Krisztian Szabo hit the post. Five-on-four the home team was successful, Arttu Luttinen tied the game. The last minutes of the period was spent in front of Fehervar’s net but Carruth saved all shots.
The second period started at a slower pace than the first, Lundmark and Manavian both missed a chance in the first minutes, then Fehervar got a powerplay opportunity but they were unsuccessful. After a counterattack five on five, Fisher missed a big chance. The second Fehervar powerplay brought more Klagenfurt chances than for Fehervar. Daniel Koger fouled 6 minutes before the buzzer and the guests used their chances much better, making the lead by Stefan Geier, moreover, just 9 seconds after their second goal, Rheault found the open puck and increased the difference. The nightmare for Fehervar didn’t end with that goal, although Erdely and co. had another powerplay opportunity, Harand and Bischofberger went against the Fehervar goalie two-on-one and the latter, who just came back from the penalty box, didn’t miss.
2 minutes into the third period, Hari passed to Erdely but Madlener saved. Klagenfurt was the better team on ice in this period and the difference was already five, Steven Strong shot in the net. Benoit Laporte changed his goalie, Miklos Rajna was in the net. Hari had to sit in the penalty box and Klagenfurt scored another goal, Bischofberger hit the puck on the blue line and Rajna didn’t have a chance. Although Fehervar had another powerplay, Klagenfurt pushed harder and finally Talbot used a mistake in the defensive zone and made the end result 1:7.

Fehervar AV19 also announced the signing of strong defenseman Brett Pallin. The Canadian defended the last two seasons for EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz and scored 38 points from 125 games. Before he played in Europe already in Czech Republic, Sweden and Germany. Pallin: „I believe my best strengths as a player are my defensive ability and consistency among other things."

Znojmo wins eagles-clash
With their newest addition, Michal Plutnar, a young defenseman from the Czech extraliga, HC Orli Znojmo started the match more offensively. This had also a few disadvantages, in the sixth minute there was a great chance of Villach, but Leiler could not aim to the net and hit the side of it instead. But it was the home team who scored first. Michal Plutnar with his debut goal made Znojmo lead and only a minute later Adam Raska raised the lead to two goals. It took Villach two and half minute to lower the gap as Nikolas Petrik used the close ground in front of Znojmo’s net. Both teams had some good chances in the second period. The first one by Nemec was stopped by Kickert’s incredible glove save and Leiler’s shot missed the net closely. The biggest chance appeared in the middle of the match, Orli’s Stehlik performed a great blueliner and hit the post. The last part of the game started better for Orli Znojmo. David Bartos scored a goal with his skate which seemed to be valid after refs checked it on video. The rest of the match was mainly played by Villach, who tried to equal the score. However, their only chance was by Leiler, who wasn’t successful against Schwarz from a close distance. Villach tried to play with an empty net in the end, but a two minute penalty for an Austrian team meant three points for Znojmo.

Zagreb got another home-win
Red Bull vs Zagreb is a match always worth watching, ever since 2009 Just two minutes into the game Raffl-Schremp-Mueller decided to capitalize on Tikkanen’s (MDV) holding penalty for game leading 0-1. Morley made a mistake on a blue line where Mueller passed him and scored for 0-1 from the slot over screened Poulin. Tikkanen and Morley tried to redeem themselves for next fifteen minutes when Morley stole the puck in the middle, went with Tikkanen and Olden into offensive zone passed the puck from middle to Olden who skated around the defenseman and put the backhanded goal in for a tie and the end of the first period. Red Bull had the offense, Bears have Poulin and that was it. In second, the bears started with the offensive, tested old acquaintance Gra?nar and went for their first lead of the game. Huber was out for checking to the head and Bears went to man-advantage. Olden was again the engine of the goal, driving the bears into the offensive zone. Tikkanen set up the goal, blocked the puck from going into the neutral passed into slot fooled Gra?nar and tipped the puck to Koskiranta who couldn’t do much but to score. 2-1 Bears.

It took “the Bulls” only four minutes to equalize. Red Bull was pressing hard, cycling the puck in the Bear’s zone and being a physical threat. Muller dug out the puck in the corner, skated to the blue line, passed on one timer to Viveiros. Poulin got the shot but bounced the puck right to Schremp’s stick and all he had to do was tip the puck into the goal for 2-2. The period wasn’t over however. Medveš?ak couldn’t get out, Red Bull was dominating when blocked the shot, Olden, Mahbod and Brine went into the offensive, skated hard, Mahbod and Olden passed the puck through Trattnig and when everyone thought Gra?nar had it – the ref blew the whistle and signaled: “Good goal” for 3:2 Bears. A rookie mistake cost the Bears another lead. Hughes was in the “Gretzky office” behind the goal, drew the bears fire and passed the puck to lone Rauchenwald in front of Poulin. Some set up and a quick wrister and we’ve got another tie.

The last period started well for the home team. “You’ll never walked alone” crowd roared when two minutes in Harris Brant checked Rajsar and there was blood. As with all the slashes and checks with blood, Brant was sent off with game misconduct and Bears went on a 5 minute long powerplay. With 13 seconds left till the end of game disadvantage – Red Bull succumbed to the Bears’ pressure. Third lead of the game for the Bears and a first goal for Boivin and third point for Morley. The shock wasn’t over when another goal shook Gra?nar’s net. For the fifth time he had to pick up the puck from his net and it was a hat trick for Olden. Another powerplay, second of the night (Schremp – slash). Gra?nar just couldn’t keep the puck on him, Morley was on the goal line, passed the puck to soaring Olden and he put it past the, not so young, Slovenian. By the end of the period only scare was when Zanoški was in the sin bin and the Bulls pulled Gra?nar in for the sixth player. However, with few seconds left, Zanoški skated back in, battled for the puck and stole it. It wasn’t hard for the seasoned ice gladiator to score an empty netter for his third of the season. Bears are now the best teams at home.

Dornbirn won bottom-clash
HCB Südtirol Alperia announced before the game the signing of Italo-Canadian Angelo Miceli. The 23 years old Center starts at Bozen his Europe-career. Miceli, who is known as a good scorer, made this season already 13 games in the East Cost Hockey League, in which he scored 13 points. The better start had the Dornbirn Bulldogs, who took the lead already in minute 5: Chris D’Alvise scored from a rebound after a shot from Brodie Reid. Bozen equalized quickly in a Power Play: Travis Oleksuk deflected a blueliner from Robin Gartner and new DEC-goalie Rasmus Rinne, who made his debut, was beaten. 0.8 seconds before the end of the first period Scott Timmins scored the 2:1 for DEC into the upper angel. In period 2 the Austrians extended their lead in a Power Play: Matt Fraser (31./pp) deflected a shot from McMonagle. The Vorarlberger then had more good chances fro Jamie Arniel and Stefan Häußle. Finally in minute 51 Ziga Pance deflected a shot from Magnan for the final 4:1.

Back Wings were on fire again
Innsbruck started dangerous at Linz, had good chances from Lammers, he hit the post, Spurgeon and Wahl. In minute 12 Spurgeon finally finished a pass from Lammers backhand for the 1:0. Late in the first period the Black Wings got stronger. After several chances Locke scored the 1:1 27 seconds before the break into the upper corner in a Power Play. Period 2 started in minute 33: Lebler finished a counter after a great pass from Robert Lukas. On the other side Spurgeon failed to score from a counter. Better did Linz: In minute 37 Jacob Dowell scored shorthanded with a good shot the 3:1. Moments later Dowell came close to score again, but this time he just hit the post after a counter. Innsbruck came back in a Power Play: Yogan deflected a shot from Clark. Period 3 started perfect for Linz: With a shot from the distance Piche added the 4:2. Then the Upper Austrians concentrated on their defense. In the final minutes Innsbruck took full risk, but it did not pay off. Piche scored the 5:2 into the empty net and in the final minute Joel Broda even added the 6:2 with a placed shot into the upper corner.

Higgs match winner for 99ers
Late in the first period the Vienna Capitals made much pressure, but the 99ers scored: Higgs got the puck in the slot and was successful from a short distance – 1:0. Period 2 started perfect for Vienna. Already after 28 seconds Niki Hartl scored the 1:1 with a big shot from the blue line after a counter. The Caps tried to turn the game around, but without success. In minute 28 the 99ers had two good chances, but Lamoureux was ready. Then the guests got a 4 minute Power Play, but Zintis Nauris Zusevics was successful shorthanded. Early in period 3 Vienna pressured for the 2:2, had good chances from Sharp (post), Schneider, Tessier, Vause and Holzapfel (post), but stayed unlucky. The 99ers on the other side scored the 3:1 from Higgs after a counter. Vienna stayed unlucky, also Nödl hit the post (52.). Late in the game Sharp finally deflected a shot from Cuma for the 2:3. Rotter failed to score the 3:3 (60.), so three points stayed at Graz.
