Salzburg takes first win, Zagreb takes points from Dornbirn

Montag, 18.September 2017 - 5:34 - KHL Medvescak Zagreb (4:3 after Overtime at Dornbirn) and EC Red Bull Salzburg (6:3 against EC-KAC) celebrated their first wins in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga 2017/2018 in round 4 on Sunday. EC VSV won a high scoring game at Linz 6:5. Successful were also HC Orli Znojmo and Leader Vienna Capitals.

Caps won at Bozen
The fans at Bozen saw a fast first period between HCB Südtirol Alperia and the Vienna Capitals. Even there were good chances on both sides, the goalies were not to beat. The second period started with a Power Play for Vienna, but the first chance had Bozen: Halmo started a shorthanded break-away, but he was stopped by Lamoureux. Still in this Power Play Rotter made the lead for the guests. Just moments later the Champion added the 2:0: Patrick Peter beat Melicherick with a shot from the blueline. And in another Power Play Rotter even made the 3:0. Bozen did not give up, but Monardo just hit the post, Smith was stopped by Lamoureaux and Egger failed to score from the Rebound. Bernard had another chance for the hosts, while Melichercik stopped Tessier still in period 2. Vienna tried to decide the game early in the last period, had chances from Samson, Nödl and Vause. The Foxes fought until the end and finally were rewarded with the 1:3 from Angelidis. Before Egger, Glira and Smith missed chances.

Znojmo took three points from Szekesfehervar
After the puckdrop, HC Orli Znojmo started better, the Czechs had chance after chance, but Fehervar AV19 was also active in front of the net in the first few minute. 5 minutes after the start the Hungarins had a powerplay opportunity and although the Hungarians had huge chances, they scored no goals. In the middle of the period, Znojmo had the biggest chance of the game so far, and they used it well: Matus scored the first goal of the game. After the goal the game went on on both ends without chances until the 15th minute, Krisztián Szabó shot from the blue line, but Schwarz saved. The second period started balanced. The Devils missed another powerplay 5 minutes into the period, then Erdély missed a breakaway, and finally Luttinen hit the post. Fehervar was the better team on ice these minutes, yet without success. In the middle of the period, Guman scored a rebound but Fehervar had an answer, 3 minutes later Krisztián Szabó fought hard in front of the net for the puck and scored from LoVecchio’s pass. Skrbek hit the post at the beginning of the third period and on the other end Szirányi shot from the blue line. 7 minutes into the period, Fehervar had their third powerplay in the game, still without success but Znojmo did not use their powerplay either 4 minutes later. The last 5 minutes were faster and harder than the game, Fehervar went for their second goal and Znojmo defended their net very well. Benoit Laporte used his timeout 2 minutes before the end, he pulled Miklos Rajna. Luttinen and LoVecchio both had their chances before the final buzzer but Schwarz played very well and Znojmo won the game 2:1.

VSV won high scoring game at Linz
EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz started the game with much offense and quickly took a 2:0 lead. Brian Lebler with a placed shot and Jake Dowell, who deflected the puck after a shot from Jonathan D’Aversa from a short distance were successful. Villach had a quick answer: Miha Verlic scored from a short distance, with two seconds to go in period 1. After the restart Villach equalized: Linz started better, but then Nikolas Petrik got a deflected puck infront of the net and made the 2:2. The Eagles then took some penalties, 5-on-3 Jonathan D'Aversa made the 3:2 with a Onetimer. DaSilva added the 4:2 from a sharp angel. The last period belong to Villach: Robert Flick with a Onetimer and Valentin Leiler, who defelected a shot from Hickmott, made it 4:4. Then Linz got another Power Play and took advantage again: This time Hofer scored from the slot. In the last five minutes Villach started the turbo: Ryan Glenn deflected a shot from Kyle Beach for the 5:5 and then Verlic even made the 6:5. Linz had a Power Play in the end, but EC VSV-goalie Lukas Herzog was not to beat anymore.

First win for Medvescak
KHL Medvescak Zagreb was ready at Dornbirn from the start: Already in minute 4 Tyler Morley scored the lead for the Bears in a shorthanded situation. The Bulldogs answered quickly with the 1:1 from Kevin Macierzynski. There was not much chances in perod 1, but with a nice shot in the upper corner Marko Pöyhönen scored the lead for the guests again in minuts 18. Period 2 started perfect for the Austrians: After just 30 seconds Brian Connelly made the 2:2 with a shot from the distance. Vilim Rosandic, who replaced Gasper Kroselj in minute 6., was beat for the first time. In an intense game the Bears came close to the lead again twice, but Mike Boivin both times just hit the post. In minute 53 Brian Connelly finished a nice combination for the 3:2 for the Vorarlberger. Medvescak also had an answer: Tero Koskiranta (56.) made the 3:3 from a solo. In the Overtime Mike Boivin fixed the win for Medvescak in minute 62 in a Power Play. It was the first victory for the Bears in the 2017/18-season in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga.

First win for Salzburg
The Red Bulls made pressure in the beginning. In minute 8 the hosts took advantage from their first Power Play: After a shot from Alex Rauchenwald Mario Huber scored the 1:0 from the rebound. And in minute 19 Alex Aleardi finished a diagonal-pass from Huber for the 2:0. Period two was intense and equal played, with chances on oth sides: In minute 26 Bobby Raymond finished a combination for the 3:0. Bernhard Starkbaum stopped the shots from the Red Jackets. In period 3 the Red Bulls quickly added two more goals. Klagenfurt didn‘t give up and now also took advantage from the chances. With goals from Regehr in a Power Play, Bischofberger and Talbot also in a Power Play Klagenfurt made it 3:5. But in the final minute John Hughes decided the game with an empty net goal - 6:3 and so Salzburg celebrated their first win in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga 2017/18.
