Samstag, 16.September 2017 - 8:13 - On Friday EC-KAC and HC Bolzano earned their first wins while Fehervar AV19 was successful in front of their home crowd, too. Thanks to a 3:2 road win in Graz, EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz are the first pursuers of leader Vienna Capitals.

Villach concedes first defeat in Fehervar
The Hungarians started the game better, LoVecchio deflected Jyrkkiö’s shot just 15 seconds after the beginning of the game but Kickert saved. The first Rajna save happened in the 5th minute, he had to save the shot and rebound of the Petrik brothers. After Sárpátki’s penalty, Villach attacked on the powerplay but Fehervar’s penalty killing worked well this time and during Uotila’s penalty, too. Fehervar played better for the whole period, which ended with a shot from Sárpátki and Gilbert. Youngster goalie David Kickert had to save more in the second period as well. After a rebound, Luttinen hit the post right at the beginning. Fehervar started to dominate more and more at the beginning of the period, the guests played on Rajna’s end only during Vidmar’s penalty. Playing full strength, Rajna performed the save of the night after Glenn’s shot. Villach got better in the middle of the period, the Hungarian goalie had much to do, he had to save Walter’s and Lanizinger’s chances. Five and a half minutes before the end of the period, Jeff LoVecchio scored after a wrap-around. Walter had to sit in the penalty box, Fehervar had their first powerplay, without success. The last period started with Erdely’s penalty but Beach had to sit in the penalty box, that is why the game went on four on four. Sarauer hit the post, then playing full strength Kickert saved, then Beach had to return to the penalty box, yet the Hungarians didn’t manage to score. LoVecchio doubled the lead for his team in the 54. minute. Villach pushed harder after the goal, but Rajna was unstoppable this evening. Two and a half minutes before the end of the game Greg Holst pulled his goalie, Erdely got a puck after a wrong pass and scored the third goal of the game. At the end of the game, Fehervar left another penalty unused.

Bolzano beats Dornbirn at home
Dornbirn came out hard with Bolzano goalie Melichercik making two great saves against Arniel and Fraser. After seven minutes the hosts generated fort he first time but DeSousa could not beat DEC netminder Quemener who had another great save against Petan later in the period. Early in the middle frame Michele Marchetti made the breakthrough and DeSousa added a second just a few mintues later. Angelidis came close to score a third but Quemener deflected his bomb to the post. At the beginning of the third Dornbirn pressed hard but once again Bolzano scored: Carlisle put his own rebound home – 3:0. With five minutes to go Austin Smith (pp) made the game safe with his first goal in the foxes jersey. One and a half minutes before the end Dustin Sylvester scored Dornbirn’s consolation goal.

Two Lebler goals bring Linz road win in Graz
The fans in Graz saw a fast-paced game with both teams trying to find their luck on the offense. Marc-Andre Dorion opened the scoring after four minutes with a blue liner. The hosts tried hard to find a quick response and they really did when Kurtis McLean made the equalizer off a great Setzinger pass. Now the 99ers had the better of the play and finally Daniel Natter put his colours 2:1 up. After restart the game was more balanced again with Linz receiving a power play. Just a few moments after Graz was back at full strength, a Brian Lebler deflection made it 2:2. There were just a few highlights in the third until Lebler decided the game with his second of the night.

1st win for KAC, 1st defeat for Znojmo
EC-KAC had the better of the play right from the beginning but Znojmo goalie Marek Schwarz stood tall. While Klagenfurt missed to score on the first pp, Znojmo did better with a man advantage when Daniel Barton found the back of the net. After Marco Brucker's equalizer, Marco Richter wasted another chance to turn the game around. Nothing really changed in the second with Klagenfurt failing to score from promising positions. It was Schwarz, who performed some great saves again and again. It was Kevin Kapstadt who broke the spell with a blue liner on powerplay, though. With ten minutes to go it was again Kapstadt, who lit the lamp for the preliminary decision. It was not only Klagenfurt's first win but also Znojmo's first defeat.
