  • Linz earned one point on Friday, losing to Znojmo in overtime
  • In Friday's 5:3 defeat in Innsbruck, HC Bolzano conceded more goals against than in the previous five preseason games together
  • 187 days after their last playoff meeting both teams meet again - back in time Bolzano made it to semis with a 4:1 series win
  • Last season the teams met eleven times with Bolzano getting six wins
  • Three of their last five matches were decided by only one goal, the other two by two goals
    Philipp Lukas (BWL): „We did well in Znojmo, except the last period. Now we are looking forward. We have to regenerate, have some good practice on Saturday and Sunday and do well in our home opener.“

    Absence: Andreas Kristler (until October/November)

    Michele Marchetti (HCB): „Tomorrow will be another important test in a difficult arena. We have to be more cynical and more disciplined, but I have good feelings and the team is really good“.

  • Zagreb (1:6 in Villach) and also Fehervar (1:9 at home against Vienna) suffered clear-cut defeat on Friday
  • On January 15, 2013 both teams met for the last time with Medvescak getting a 3:2 away win
  • Mike Boivin, who scored Zagreb's lone goal in Villach, scored one of his two season goals against Fehervar in the Graz jersey last season
  • The teams have played eleven games in Zagreb in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga with Medvescak winning seven
  • Fehervar has not won on the road for seven league games

    Mike Boivin (MZA): „We can't be satisfied with our opener. Now we have to prepare for Fehervar and hopefully we can get our first points.“

    Clint Thornton (Assistant coach AVS): „'As a group, we expect to respond after a disappointing home opener. We have a group of individuals committed to improvement as a team, committed to competing for the jersey and committed to our fans. It was a rough start but we have moved on and prepared for a tough Zagreb team on the road. Our mentality is to compete each shift and focus on the process to continuously improve.“

  • Villach (6:1 against Zagreb) and Graz (4:2 in Klagenfurt) opened the new season successfully
  • In last seasons games in Villach the winning team always scored four goals (VSV won twice)
  • Villach opened the 2016-17 season with two wins
  • VSV forward Kyle Beach will play his former team of Graz where he spent the last one and a half years
  • On today's September 9, Graz 99ers celebrate their 18-year- existence
    Nico Brunner (VSV): „You should never underestimate Graz. They have good palyers and added even more quality to their roster during summer. We ahve to stick to our game plan.“

    Doug Mason (G99): „I think this season will be really close with lots of teams palying for the first six spots. All teams have become better once again, it will be a good abttle. We are going step by step and hopefully we can do another in Villach“.

  • While Znojmo won Friday's only overtime against Linz, Salzburg suffered a hme defeat against Dornbirn due to a last minute goal against
  • Salzburg has won the last four road games in Znojmo
  • Znojmo has not only won the season opener against Linz, but also all preseason games in front of their home crowd
  • Last season both teams also met on game day 2 with Znojmo getting a big 7:1 victory
  • In the same season Salzburg lost their first three games
    Patrik Novak (ZNO): „We are satisfied after winning the first game. We are well prepared for the season, especially physical. Salzburg and Linz play a similar style of hockey, we have to do our job again. We have some tough opponents at the start but the season will be extremely close“.

    Greg Poss (RBS): „We know Znojmo and their strenghts, it's never easy against them. We need all our palyers to be successful.“

  • While the Caps are top of the table with a ).1 win, Klagenfurt fell to Graz at home
  • The Caps scored five powerplay gaols, Klagenfurt conceded two goals against when shorthanded
  • It's a rematch of last seasons finals when the Viennese got a sweep for their second championship title
  • The Caps have won their last ten EBEL home games, suffering their last defeat against KAC in the pick round opener (0:5)
  • Vienna earned five successive wins to start the 2016-17 campaign

    Serge Aubin (VIC): „We had a perfect start after sticking to our game plan for 60 minutes. We also need this attitude in tomorrow's game against Klagenfurt. I expect a game at eye level, same minor mistakes can decide it."

    Manuel Ganahl (KAC): „Nothing really went our way on Friday. We have to draw a lesson about that as we head to Vienna on Sunday. They opened the season with a runaway victory, it will be a thrilling game.“
