Tight games and five home wins in the AHL

Sonntag, 19.November 2017 - 9:10 - On Saturday six of seven Alps Hockey League games were decided by only one goal. Five times the hosts held the upper hand with Fassa springing a surprise by beating HK Olimpija. In addition, HC Pustertal and last seasons runners-up Asiago earned road wins.

HC Neumarkt Riwega - EC 'Die Adler' Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 3:2 OT (0:2, 2:0, 0:0, 1:0)
The first part of the period was surely in the hands of the guests who play better and with more continuity. Despite the absences of Peter Lenes and Henrik Hochfilzer, Austrian team took the lead after 6 minutes. During the first powerplay of the match, Kitzbühel built a fast action finalized by Christopher Feix's goal. After four minutes the Eagles doubled with Oleg Sislannikovs at the end of another fast action. After having suffered two goals, the Egna reorganized and played better than the opponents but the first time ended on the double Austrian advantage. During the second period the Wild Geese played with more intense. Tobias Brighenti served a perfect assist for Kamil Brebanec who didn’t mistake in the front of the net as he put the puck under the crossbar for the the first goal of home team (24.). Then in the middle Neumarkt reached the tie. Christian Willeit shot from the blue line: the puck was deflected in the net by Joseph Harcharick. On the result of 2: 2, the game became very fought. During the third period, Nuemarkt seemed to find its first victory at regular times but despite the time in powerplay the goal of the victory didn’t arrive. In fact the home team closed the third time in shorthanded. After the regular time, the Neumarkt resisted and when both teams played 3 on 3, Jan Muzik built a fast action as he served Brabenec. The Czech Republic's forward deflected the puck in the net (for his second goal of the evening) and the Neumarkt won 3:2 in the overtime.

EC Bregenzerwald - EC KAC II 4:3 OT (1:2, 1:0, 1:1, 1:0)
Bregenzerwald came out hard but conceded a breakaway goal when 16 year-old Fabian Hochegger opened the scoring on a rebound after three minutes. Soon later Thimo Nickl, who is even one year younger, doubled the lead on power play. Then the hosts became stronger again and finally Jusso Mörsky pulled one bakc after twelve minutes. Early in the middle frame Bregenzerwald fired goalwards from every position and it only took two minutes until Philipp Pöschmann tied the game. Klagenfurt missed a good chance to retake the lead when Benjamin Rassl failed to score on a penalty shot because of netminder Misa Pietilä. There were just a few highlights in the third but after 56 minutes Mörsky turned the game around with his second of the night. Soon later Kevin Schettina equalized to force overtime. It was an up and down game in the extra session and Bregenzerwald captain Christian Ban finally decided it with one second to go.

EHC Alge Elastic Lustenau - HC Pustertal Wölfe 2:4 (0:1, 1:1, 1:2)
Both teams started a bit enrvous into the game. There were just a few highlights in the opening period but at least one goal was scored. Max Oberrauch made the breakthrough on pwoer play after 15 minutes. In the second the hosts generated good opportunities and after37 minutes Yan Stastny tied it with a man advantage. Only 38 seconds later Eric Pance restored Pustertal's lead. The wolves were the dominating team in the third period woth Oberrauch extending the lead with another power play marker. In the 52th minute David Slivnik pulled one back but it was not enough for EHC this eevning. Only 40 seconds later Alex De Lorenzo Meo made the game safe for a 4:2 Pustertal road win.

FBI VEU Feldkirch - S.G. Cortina Hafro 2:1 SO (0:0, 1:0, 0:1, 0:0, 1:0)
In the standings only three points were between Feldkirch and Cortina before the game and the fans saw an expected hard-fought game. In the first period VEU goalie Alex Caffi had some great saves to keep a clean sheet. The Italians could not use two power plays for a goalless score after 20 minutes. It also was a fast-paced an thrilling game in the middle frame with Feldkirch taking the lead thanks to a Daniel Fekete goal after 32 minutes. Cortina showed their quality and tied it at one when Riley Brace found the back of the net after 48 minutes. With no more goals in the remainder of regulation and also in overtime no one lit the lamp, the game went into shootout. Here, Caffi saved all Cortina attempts while Kevin Puschnik and Dylan Stanley netted for a 2:1 VEU home win.

WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan - HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice 3:2 (0:0, 1:2, 2:0)
Jesenice put a lot of pressure into the first minutes of the game but Vipiteno defended well. Then during a powerplay of visitors, the Broncos was very dangerous and the game became more balanced. First Daniel Maffia and then a nice action of second line made the home team more dangerous. The first time was without goal. During the second period, the match became full of emotions. Greg Nyren scored the first goal of the evening with a nice shot under the crossbar. Then Jesenice reacted as they made two goals after the middle. Gasper Glavic found the goal after a shot from the distance that surprised the defense of Broncos. Then the Red Steelers scored with Zan Jezovsek who was close to the pole for an easy goal. In the third time, the Broncos wanted to return to the game. It was just Jesenice's former Jure Sotlar, who scored the tie on the rebound after an insistent action of Sterzing. Gianluca Vallini saved the result and so the Broncos made the decisive goal with a bitter Greg Nyren. The Canadian defender stopped the puck with his hand. Then he started with a fast acton: he turned around the net and then put the puck under the crossbar. When nine minutes were missing at the end of the third time, the home returned to the lead (3: 2). Jesenice was no longer able to recover as they remained always at four points behind Ritten's leader.

HC Fassa Falcons - HK SZ Olimpija 3:2 (1:0, 1:1, 1:1)
Manuel Da Tos was absent for home team. Tilen Spreitzer was the Ljubljana's goalkeeper. The first period was played very open manner by the two teams that put a lot of energy. There was a slight supremacy of the Slovenes but they didn’t succeeded to score. After 15 minutes Falcons's Devin Di Diomete put the puck under the crossbar with a soft wrist shot. The hosts continued to play well in the second half and this surprised the opponents who was much ahead in the standings. Paolo Bustreo made the doubling, in the middle of the match with a diagonal shot that the Ljubljana goalkeeper couldn’t hold with the puck coming in slowly to the net. Then there was the first Slovenian goal with Matic Kralj in the last minutes of the central period. In the third time, Ljubljana seemed to have found the right path. After 47 minutes, Crt Snoj made the draw (2: 2). But Falcons continued to play their game with security without to look the result. When were missing 3 minutes to end of the third period, it was the decisive goal of Samuel Rothstein. The center got a goal with speed as he overcome the Ljubljana goalkeeper. The Fassa won 3:2 as they returned to victory after six consecutive defeats.

HC Gherdeina valgardena.it - Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 3:4 (2:2, 0:0, 1:2)
Intense first period was played at Wolkenstein, where both team put a lot of energy since the first minutes. But the goals arrived only in powerplay situation. Anthony Nigro (5.) and Marco Rosa (8.) allowed to take advantage (2:0) in favour of the visitors. But the first time was still full of emotions. During the 14th minute Gherdeina scored two goals in only 32 seconds and always in powerplay situation. First there was the goal of Ivan Demetz and then Gabriel Vinatzer, who made a goal after a wonderful personal action worthy of note. Even after the first break the game remained very open. Minutes by minutes, the "Furies" had the best opportunities, but goalkeeper Frederic Cloutier saved at least three times the result. Goalkeeper Giancarlo Kostner was also in evidence as he saved the penalty shot of expert Giulio Scandella. During the third time the game was more than ever fought. Asiago took again the lead with Anthony Bardaro but again Gherdeina scored the tie with Benjamin Kostner after 53 minutes. But the game didn’t go the overtime. The match closed as it opened. Just three seconds from the end of the third period Anthony Nigro made the last net of the evening as Asiago earned three points after a long fight.
