AHL top teams drop points on the road

Sonntag, 29.Oktober 2017 - 5:49 - While the persecutors HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice and Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 1935 stayed without points on the road, Leader Rittner Buam could get at least a Shoot Out win at Sterzing. Shut Out wins for Red Bull Hockey Juniors and HK SZ Olimpija.

S.G. Cortina Hafro - EK Zeller Eisbären 4:2 (2:0; 0:1; 2:1)
Good start of Cortina as they scored two goals in 4 minutes thanks to the good work of the first line of attack. Both goals was made by Riccardo Lacedelli with the assistance of Riley Brace and Edoardo Caletti. Thanks to the double advantage the home controlled the game well and then they contained the return of Zell am See. Cortina, however, failed to achieve the third goal. During the second period, Gerd Kragl made the first Polar Bears’ goal for a game that stayed in balance for many minutes. When missing five minutes from the end of the third period, Riley Brace scored with a penalty shot for Cortina. But the Austrian answer was immediate as they scored after just 43 seconds with Frederik Widen. Cortina reached the goal of certainty when missing 73 seconds from the final whistle with Riley Brace's empty goal. The Cortina earned 3 important points as they climbed the standings and overtook EKZ and WSV.

WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan - Rittner Buam 1:2 SO (0:0; 0:0; 1:1; 0:0; 0:1)
When challenging two teams that have the first defense (Sterzing) and the second best defense (Ritten) of AHL, the game will not be able to give many goals. This happened in the South Tyrolean derby between the Broncos and Rittner Buam where in the first half and in the second half they did not have a goal. During the first period the game was fast but the teams granted little or nothing to their opponents. There was a rebound of Dan Tudin but the opportunity for guests disappeared. Even in the first 10 minutes of the middle, the attacks didn’t create much. Then in the middle of the match the first real occasions came. Earlier the Ahlstrom twins and then Simon Kostner found a decisive Gianluca Vallini in the net of the Sterzing. The Broncos also answered by hitting two poles. After 38 minutes there was a puck that hit the post from the distance and maybe got into the goal but for the referees, after the video replay, the result remained always 0:0. The spell ended in the middle of the third period. Dan Tudin took advantage of the guests. But the Broncos still believed in. In the final minutes of the period Julian Konster took a double minor. When 22 seconds was missing at the end of the third period there was Matthias Mantinger's tie in powerplay. The excite game went to the overtime and then to the penalties where Rittner Buam won by Julian Kostner's decisive point. Now the Buam have four points on Jesenice.

HC Gherdeina valgardena.it - HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice 3:2 (0:1; 2:1; 1:0)
The first defeat of the season in the regular time for Jesenice came on the road after the game in Wolkstein. Slovenian team was overtaken by the “Furies” who then recovered two goals of disadvantage as they returned to victory after five consecutive defeats in a row. The start of the game was all in favor of the visitors who made the first goal after just 22 seconds of play with Blaz Tomazevic. It looked like an easy game for the second team in the standings. But the Red Steelers doubling came after the middle with Luka Kalan. At this point, Gherdeina played one of the best moments of the season. Before the end of the central period, Andreas Vinatzer and Fabio Kostner tied the result (2: 2). After 43 minutes, Gherdeina took over with Jere Ölander. Jesenice was surprised by the great strength of Gherdeina who then won for 3: 2. For Jesenice it is the first defeat after 10 victories in a row.

HC Fassa Falcons - Red Bull Hockey Juniors 0:1 (0:1; 0:0; 0:0)
The Austrian formation started in the game with more efficiency as they made a goal after a minute of play with Daniel Wachter. The pressure of the Juniors was constant towards the defense of a Fassa who in the first period failed to organize a good game against their opponents. However Salzburg produced a lot but after the first period there was only a goal of difference between the two teams. In the second half the game was different. Falcons were more aggressive as the Juniors were more defensive. But the efforts of the hosts didn’t give any goal and after 40 minutes the score was always 0:1. Also in the third period the two formations played so much but in the end it remained the only goal of Wachter who decided the match. Fourth consecutive victory for the Red Bulls that surpassed Fassa and KEC in the standings as they go to the 11th place in the standings. Daniel Fassinger, goalkeeper of the RBJ, earned the first shutout of the season.

28.10.2017: HK SZ Olimpija – HC Neumarkt Riwega 3:0 (0:0,2:0,1:0)
After two close defeats at home HK SZ Olimpija managed to get back on the winning track downing HC Neumarkt Riwega 3:0. 231 Ljubljana fans saw their favorites be in charge in the opening period. Still thanks to Kristian Budinsky there was no change on the scoreboard. Deadlock got broken in 32nd minute when Kristjan Cepon got the better of the Italian youngster. Not long after Matic Kralj made it 2:0 for the dragons. Crt Snoj put the icing on the cake with a lone last period goal while Robert Kristan managed to save everything going his way for his 4th shutout of the season.

28.10.2017: EHC Alge Elastic Lustenau – FBI VEU Feldkirch 2:5 (0:1,2:1,0:3)
FBI VEU Feldkirch started better into the derby, They had the upper hand of the game, but without creating real chances. The first good chance had then Lustenau: Philipp Winzig was alone in front of the net, but could not beat goalie Caffi. In a Power Play VEU took the lead: Dylan Stanley scored into the short angel. In period 2 Feldkirch extended the lead in anonther Power Play. This time Martin Mairitsch was successful- This was a wake-up-call for Lustenau. The Lions now had more chances and came back thanks goals from Thomas Auer and Philip Putnik in Powerplay. The Lions continued to make pressure, but missed to score again. Late in the second period Feldkirch got stronger again and finally returned on the winning-street early in period 3: Sven Grasböck and Dylan Stanley made it 4:2 in minute 43. Finally the VEU won the derby against Lustenau 5:2.

28.10.2017: EC Bregenzerwald – Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 1935 4:3 (0:0,4:3,0:0)
A fast first period between EC Bregenzerwald and Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 1935 stayed without goals. After the re-start the two teams really were on Fire, totally seven goals were scored! Already in minute 22 Marco Rosa made the lead for the „Yellow-Reds“. In a Power Play Christian Ban answered with the 1:1 for ECB from a sharp angel. The Captain then also added the 2:1 in the same way. Mörsky quickly added the 3:1 – it was the third goal within 106 seconds. Now Tom Barrasso took a Time Out and it helped. The Italians tied the game still in period 2. But then the Italians took another penalty and this was punished by the Austrians, who scored the 4:3 four second before the break. In the last 20 minutes the two teams played very offensive, but both goalies - Pietilä und Cloutier – were not to beat anymore.

28.10.2017: EC “Die Adler” Stadtwerke Kitzbühel – HC Pustertal Wölfe 6:5/OT (3:0,1:2,1:3,1:0)
EC „Die Adler“ Stadtwerke Kitzbühel had a great start into the game, already after 18 seconds Sislannikovs beat goalie Alexander Kinkelin the first time. The Austrians were the more active team and extended their lead: Peter Lenes in minute 9 and Filip Orsagh in a Power Play made it 3:0 still in period one. The guests from Bruneck then changed their goalie, Thomas Tragust replaced Alexander Kinkelin. After the re-start Martin Gran quickly added the 4:0, but the wolves did not give up. With a hat-trick Sean Ringrose made it 3:4. Now the Italians were back in the game. The guests then missed Power Play, while on the other side Henrik Eriksson could score the 5:3 for the Eagles from Kitzbühel. Now there was just ten minutes to play. But Pance and Oberrauch brought the game into an Overtime. Here Sislannikovs, who had also opened the scoring, fixed the win for the Tyroleans.
